Acerinox celebrates the victory of Carlos Arroyo, a Materials Engineer at our Roldán plant in Ponferrada, who has won first prize in Europe, within the Industry category, in the steelChallenge competition, after winning the Spanish competition.
steelChallenge is a global learning program and competition organized by WorldSteel, and the Spanish edition has been promoted by the UNESID Foundation, in collaboration with PLATEA.
This achievement highlights Acerinox’s commitment to excellence and talent development in the steel industry.
“Although it has been a surprise and I didn’t expect it, the truth is I prepared and studied very diligently”, said Carlos, who secured first place in the Europe & Africa region. His victory will allow him to compete in the world championship that will be held in April of 2025 in Sydney, Australia, against the winners from Americas and three different regions of Asia.

A triumph for the Spanish steel industry
steelChallenge Spain, held on November 26 of this year, is a key initiative for attracting and retaining young talent in the steel industry, combining immersive learning with competition. In this first edition a total of 68 participants competed, within the categories of Industry and Students, with a strong Spanish presence in the top positions of the international ranking.
In the global competition, with a total of 2,624 participants from 34 countries, Spain managed to place five representatives in top positions. This result highlights the relevance of initiatives such as steelChallenge in shaping future leaders of the industry.
